ive seen this movie but that title is so common its hard to find.
They understood exactly what they did. They knew right from wrong. They deserve the same treatment. A lesson to the next murdering butchers(s).
The actual woman this happened to died as a result of the brutal torture and rape.
@Cyberpit2000 Sorry, I probably shouldn’t have phrased it the way I did. The people weren’t really under intense pressure, but like you said, were merely being encouraged to continue. I really should have said that we feel that we have an obligation to listen to those in power.
35% of people did stop before the death voltage, which I believe was 450 (?), but only one stopped before 300. But as you said, Milgram definitely had skewed the results of the experiment.
@tetsuyayamatashi That wasn’t what the Milgram Experiment was about, it was about plain old obediance to authority – no pressure circumstances at all, all the people were told if they refused to continue was “please continue”, “I’ll take the blame”, “You must continue” – the whole experiment evolved from the nazi trials in ‘45/’46. Plus a large % of people (around 35%) who didn’t shock the “student” up to the death voltage – Milgram just sweped them under the carpet with out explaination haha !
good acting ellen page is really something
There was a psychological test done years (the Milgram Experiment) ago showing that under pressure from some form of authority, a person will do pretty much anything. In this test, people thought they were administering heavy shock therapy to a text subject until the subject became unresponsive.
It just shows that sometimes it’s not all about the person’s upbringing or mental state as much as it is about us being naturally obedient creatures.
The poor, poor girl. It’s so terrible that she’s suffering abuse from these people.
I just feel like that in doing so, that’s not justice. There’s just a very fine line between the different views. I’m not sure I can find any other way in supporting my side of the argument. Just that I hold the human species as being a bit more than just talking apes, despite the fact that at times humans can be more savage than a rabid dog. I feel that killing them just because the treatments aren’t working, that’s like drowning puppies cuz you can’t afford to take care of them.
I was never touched by any video/movie/story more than by this one. Really makes one wonder. The horrible thing is, that this wasnt done by one twisted kid, but so many kids new about this. That would imply of course, that any human being is capable of these things without proper parenting. They did it because others did it. Children are the cruelest, because they dont understand.
@puggieme “A human being is still a human being reguardless…” Yes, no matter how cruel, a human being is still a member of the same species of talking apes, like I said. How does that take away from my arguement that we have a perfect right to eleminate those who have proven themselves to be a clear and present threat to our safety and happiness? If they can be fixed, fine. Counseling, drugs, surgery, electric shocks, whatever. If it doesn’t work, why not rid ourselves of them?
It’s hard to fathom how cruel humans can be sometimes…If she had been my child I would have felt the need to go and rip that womans throat out and hurt those people that had done that to her…of course that wouldn’t be right certainly wouldn’t solve anything. Poor sweet Sylvia may her soul rest in peace
Nature decides? Fate? I’m not going to say God because I’m so far from religious it’s not even funny… But A human being is still a human being regardless of how their brains function. I also don’t agree with hunting for sport (only for food). I believe that most people can be rehabilitated. There are some people who seriously CAN be rehabilitated that aren’t even given the chance because the court decides to execute them. People are people, no matter what they do.
@puggieme If it’s not our place to decide who lives and dies, then whos place is it? And what do you mean when you say “they’re as human as you and me”. “Human”, it’s just a word used to describe a particular species of talking apes. The fact is that certain people among us are a real threat to our safety and happiness. I do not blame them for what they are. Their brains are not like mine or like yours I assume. But if we can’t fix them, why should we not rid ourselves of them?
Idk… I just feel that it’s not our place to say who lives and who dies, no matter what they do. No matter what, they are still as human as you or me. And I hate to argue with the “tax” debate but don’t you think that’s a selfish reason to kill someone. That’ killing someone for the sake of money. Granted I feel terrible for Sylvia, I would’ve beaten the hell out of Gertrude if I ever had the opportunity. My only complaint about Gertrude’s punishment is that they let her out for good behavior.
O_O……ahhhhhhhhhh!!!! if only someone saved her!
saddest movie ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sometimes you gotta go through hell to get to heaven
No arguments from me there, my friend. Neither do I want our taxes going to support them while they have a nice life in prison. Whether it’s to punish them or to rid us of them, putting them to death is the best thing all around.
@childofthemarshalsea I don’t think of dealing with crime in terms of “punishment”, “justice”, and the like. I don’t blame the human monsters for being what they are. If we can’t fix them, then I think we should put them to death, but it’s not about punishing them. It’s simply a matter of getting them out of the world for our own safety.
If these people have a conscience, then yes, that would not be a bad idea. Let them be tormented by their own guilt. But anyone who can do this to another person probably has no conscience and, in any case, the punishment must fit the crime. If someone commits murder, putting them to death is the most appropriate punishment.
But would that solve anything? Personally, I like the idea of sticking these people in a tiny cell staring at nothing but a blank wall, maybe a picture of their victim, so they can dwell on it for the rest of their lives.
the only thing i regret is not being there for sylvia:,(
Ellen Page’s scream at 1:10 is the most chilling sound I have heard in a movie. Ever.
